I can provide Music Therapy for the client in their own home within Neath and Swansea. As Music Therapy is confidential, it is best if there is a room with minimum disruption. However, I can also offer Music Therapy with a carer present if this is thought to be appropriate to the needs of the client. For example, this may be likely with a young child.

Initial Consultation

At an initial consultation I would meet with the client (or carer) to discuss reasons for wanting Music Therapy, what you hope to get out of it and generally find out as much as possible about the client's difficulties and needs.

Music Therapy Assessment

Following this consultation, I would evaluate the client's strengths and needs and arrange to see them for a Music Therapy assessment. This will be an actual Music Therapy session involving active music-making between myself and the client. Here the suitability of Music Therapy as a treatment for them is assessed and clear aims and objectives are created. These aims can be adjusted as the therapy develops but they offer a baseline from which to start. They can also help when evaluating the effectiveness of the therapy later on. At this point I would write an Assessment Report detailing the observations from the assessment.

Duration of Sessions

For children, a session would usually be a maximum of 30 minutes. For adults it would be between 30 and 50 minutes depending on what would be most beneficial for the client.

It is recommended that clients have a minimum of 10 sessions as this is a long-term treatment based on the development of a non-verbal relationship between the client and Music Therapist. However, the length of therapy can be discussed with the therapist and the decision to carry on can be reviewed regularly. Some people have Music Therapy for a short period of time while others have continued to have Music Therapy for many years.

Group Sessions

I also can provide group sessions for organisations. For example, I run small group sessions for children through the National Autistic Society. Please contact me for more information.

Initial consultations are free of charge. Once we begin Music Therapy, each session (individual or group) will be £45 or you can book a block of 10 sessions for £400. These rates are in accordance with BAMT guidelines. Session blocks for individuals will include an Assessment Report following the first two-three sessions and when the therapy comes to an end, a Final Discharge Report will be written. For groups, each report will be invoiced at £25.
